Fun and Game!

I was commissioned by Spin Master Games to create 41 faux tarot cards for the game, “Trust Me, I’m Psychic.” I had a great time being “weirdly symbolic” and was fortunate to have all the references I needed close at hand. I’m a huge fan of tarot art and have a collection of decks that provided inspiration for the game cards. The deadline was tight so I had to keep things moving. Once the roughs were approved, I carved each card at about 9″ x 12,” then printed, scanned and colored them in Photoshop. I couldn’t think of a more perfect assignment for me!

Spotlight Interview

HighPriestess

I was invited to answer a few questions about illustration for the Illustrator Spotlight at HireAnIllustrator.com.

This linocut image was created for the eightieth birthday of Carus Publishing (Cricket Media) founder, Marianne Carus. It is a reinvention of the High Priestess tarot card incorporating icons to represent Spider, Cricket and Ladybug magazines. I also changed the card number from two to eighty.

Black History Month

dacosta_promo

I was commissioned by Andrew Perro Design to create a mockup for a Canada Post stamp. To illustrate this portrait of Mathieu Da Costa, the first black man to visit Canada in the early 1600s, I researched his life as a free African employed as a translator by French traders and explorers. Da Costa spoke French, Dutch, Portuguese and possibly some North American aboriginal languages. My interpretation of Mathieu is a hand-carved linocut with digital color.
